Dick started his career at the Humane Society of Missouri where he met his beloved wife, Suzanne "Chief" Saueressig. From there, he started his own practice, Riegel Animal Hospital in Maplewood, MO. He had a wonderful practice during his lifetime and was entirely devoted to the professional care of thousands of animals in the St. Louis area.
