Love Emblem

Mario Santander was suddenly and unexpectedly called to heaven on Saturday, October 17th, 2015, while in the company of his four children, wife Izuara his sister and many friends, during a celebration of his beloved homeland, Bolivia.

Born in La Paz, Bolivia on August 28th, 1928, Mario married the love of his life, Maria Luisa Chiocchetti on July 31, 1954. Mario and Maria Luisa shared the blessing of 49 years of marriage while building their lives together in St. Louis, Missouri, where they successfully reared their four children. After Maria Luisa's death, Mario was given the wonderful gift of a second wife, Izuara Manzi, with whom he has lovingly shared the last ten years of his life.

As the Co-Founder of the Bolivian Society of St. Louis in 1965, and throughout his life thereafter, Mario created an admirable legacy of extraordinary generosity, kindness, hospitality, optimism, and genuine concern for others, which will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mario is survived by his wife, Izuara Manzi-Santander, his sister Silvia Bernal and brother German Santander, his four children; Lily Santander, Rose Mary (Michael) Riley, Liz Santander, and Mario (Chris) Westerheide~Santander, step-sons; Roulien, Robert and Rafael Manzi, his grandchildren; Jessica (Scott) Burrows, Angela (Carlos) Zuniga, Chris Santander, Michelle (Charles) Islas, Matt , Will and Jack Roby, and Sophia and Nicholas Westerheide, and step-grandchildren Chelsea, Luigi and Bailey Manzi, and great-grandchildren Jesse, Javier, Elyssa and Elora Zuniga and Jackson Burrows.

Mario joins those family members who preceded him in heaven, including his first wife, Maria Luisa, grandchild Robert Stumborg, mother Juana Alvarez Santander, father Luis Santander and siblings Jose Luis Santander, Gloria Santander, and Fridolino Santander.

Services: The Family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 7316 Balson Avenue, University City, Missouri 63130. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bolivian Society of St. Louis 9804 Cottonwood Lane, St. Louis MO 63119. Please make checks out to The Bolivian Society, thank you.
