Henry Stephen "Stevie" Landau, IV
Age 12, peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014.
Cherished son of Jennifer and H. Stephen Landau Ill; devoted grandson of Donna and Daniel Buchheit, the late H. Stephen Landau Jr. and Anne Louise Landau; dear nephew, cousin and friend to anyone he ever met. "Stevie" was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May 2008 when he was just 6 years old and in Kindergarten at St. Ambrose on "The Hill" in St. Louis. He battled this horrible disease fearlessly and with such grace that one would never know that he had Leukemia, with the exception of those periods when the chemo took his hair. He actually beat the disease in August 2011 and was cancer-free for 19 months.
In April 2013, while at Glenridge Elemenary, Stevie was once again stricken by this tenacious cancer of the blood. This news was devastating to the family, but in typical StevieStrong fashion, he once again fearlessly went about the business of defeating Leukemia. Fighting Leukemia is no easy battle - extreme poisons; multiple hospital stays; clinic visits sometimes 4 out of 5 days a week; tremendous lifestyle restrictions. Yet Stevie not only managed to deal with all these issues, he would find a silver lining in each and every situation - he'd get very excited to see his friends on treatment or his tutor or his art therapist. His wonderful attitude made this terrible situation much more tolerable for his family and friends.
Stevie was an old, comforting soul who was a genuine friend to literally everyone he ever met. Young, old; black, white, yellow or red; healthy or ill; he was a ray of light shining upon all God's creatures.
In the end, as with so many cancer patients, Leukemia is not what exhausted this beautiful young man. It was an infection that he simply could not contend with without white blood cells or platelets, common concerns of those battling cancer.
Stevie's family thanks you for your prayers and uplifting thoughts to get them through their difficult journey ahead."
